F.A.Q.'s
How
does moisture get in the system?
In
my opinion, where the factory placed the dryer was not exactly the perfect place.
When using an air compressor, you always place the dryer away from the compressor
a bit. The air is still hot coming out of the compressor and the moisture is still
in a vapor state. It needs to cool down a bit before it can effectively captured.
With this being said, "IF" the factory setup was lucky and absorbed
even 95% of the moisture, times that by 10 or 12 years, you can see the problem.
Its the same thing as buying an air compressor for your garage from Home Depot
or somewhere. For awhile, you use it with no problem, but if you don't drain the
tank (you can't "drain" an air suspension system), after a certain amount
of moisture has been accumulated, every time you blow saw dust or use an air tool,
you'll get a mist of moisture. Its the same thing. Once moisture has gathered
in the system, every time the car vents, its blowing all that moisture through
an already overwhelmed dryer and through the compressor. Basically its giving
the compressor a bath!
My compressor has a dryer already, do I
really need a SPIDER
EXTREME?
In
our estimates, about 80% of the Mark VIII's & Town Cars on the road have an
excessive moisture problem. The problem didn't start overnight, but rather over
many years of service. By
installing a SPIDER
EXTREME, you will protect
your compressor from moisture AND be able to add air to the system in the case
of a failure of most common air suspension problems.
How
does the SPIDER EXTREME
absorb the moisture?
By
utilizing 2 water separator/filters strategically located between the compressor
and the rest of the system, it gathers moisture as it enters the system, as well
as when it leaves the system. The SPIDER
EXTREME has its own vent solenoid, so any
moisture that has been accumulated over the years won't be blown through the compressor....it
will be gathered by one of the water separator/filters.
How
do I know that I need to remove the moisture from the water separator.
You
can look through the clear bowls of the water separator to see how much moisture
has accumulated.
How
often do I need to remove the moisture from the water filter/separator?
How
often you remove the gathered moisture depends allot on how much the car is used
and the environment it has to deal with. For the most part, I would say if you
checked it once a year you would be fine.
How
do I release the moisture out of the bowls?
Temporarily
slide the air filter housing out of the way. Then simply put your hand through
the big hole that the silencer used to cover up, and push the small weak shraeder
valve button on the bottom of each water separator and let any remaining pressure
carry out the moisture.
How
can I pump up the system using the SPIDER EXTREME?
To
manually pump up the system, raise the hood and have your compressed air hose
ready and the suspension switch ON. Then, within 90 seconds
of turning on the ignition, apply compressed air to the shraeder valve
(tire valve) located on the gauge assembly. Unless you have had a blowout or something,
which will allow more air to escape than your putting in, the car should rise.
NOTE:
One
end will rise at a time, never both at the same time. In other words, the front
may raise up first and when its at the desired height, it will stop rising and
then the rear will rise if needed.
What
are the uses of the SPIDER EXTREME?
The
primary reason the
SPIDER EXTREME was
designed, was to protect the compressor from moisture. With the addition of the
gauge, it can be used in diagnosing a problem with the system at a later date.
You can also pump up a low or flat tire using your air suspension system!
HOW
can the SPIDER EXTREME
be used to fill a flat tire?
By using a hose connected from the
shraeder valve (tire valve) to the flat tire, simply turn the ignition switch
on and sit on the hood of the car. This will trick the module into thinking it
needs to raise the front end up. What will happen is, the compressor should come
on and the front end will go down a little, but all the air will go to the affected
tire. Depending on how big a tire your inflating and/or how low on air it is,
it may take more than one compressor cycle to get the tire to the desired pressure.
NOTE:
After
the compressor runs for 90 seconds, the module will give up and shut the compressor
off. When this happens, simply turn the ignition off, then right back on again.
Then it will run for another 90 seconds.
If
I accidentally installed the blue & white wires in the wrong spot, what will
happen?
This
could be bad. There is no circuit protection here and it could fry the module.
The thing to do is to do one wire at a time.
Should
I lubricate the air lines before I install them in the dryer?
Absolutely
NOT! The lines rarely need anything
more than a little push and maybe even a twist to insert them correctly. The collet
is designed to lock onto the line to keep it from pulling out. If you use vaseline
or something, the line could slip out.
Can
I remove the SPIDER EXTREME
from my old car and install it on another one?
Absolutely!
The SPIDER
EXTREME was designed to be easily removed
and only leave a small hint that it had been installed.
