A FEW USES OF AN ORDINARY TEST LIGHTTO TEST FOR POWER IN A CIRCUITPut the wire clip on basically anything metal on the vehicle(chassis ground). Always touch the probe end to a "known good power source" as a test of your ground selection. Anything you now probe(12volts) with power, will light up this light. A much more expensive test light will allow you to test for smaller current(9 volts). TO TEST FOR A GROUND IN A CIRCUIT Now put the clip on a known good Power source. Again, test the light, but this time, touch the probe to a ground source. Anything you probe now that lights it up, is a ground. TESTING FOR A DRAW WITH A TEST LIGHT Battery going dead if the car sits for a few days? This may sound weird but to check a vehicle for a draw(unwarranted power loss), you first remove the negative battery lead from battery. Put test light lead on cable, then touch the battery with the probe. If it lights up, your draining power from the battery. This can be a dome light, hood light, trunk light, glovebox light….anything on the car. Most likely, a cheap test light will only "see" a good 12 volt draw.A more expensive test light will "see" even a 9 volt draw(which a cars computer will draw normally). If you have a draw and don’t know what it is, pull the fuses out until the light goes out. Then go to the fuse panel section and see whats on that circuit. | ||||
