THE
ORANGE COLLAR(S) ON THE DRYER ARE LOOSE
It
is normal for the air line(s) to move a little while connected in the dryer. This
is normal and the "nature of the beast", so to speak. Please, DON'T
attempt to put teflon tape, silicone, glue or anything on or around the brass
collet to try to "tighten-up" or help seal a connection, as the pressure
associated (120-200 psi) with this connection, will simply blow past. The collet
holds the line into the hole but DOES NOT seal the air line. The line is
sealed by way of a small rubber o-ring. (The collet will be very loose in the
dryer hole if the line is not installed, but should tighten up a little when the
line is installed)
IF AN AIR
LINE IS LEAKING, THE SEALING O-RING ON THAT LINE NEEDS TO BE REPLACED. If
it still leaks after the o-ring is replaced, the line itself may have a burr or
bad place on it and not allowing the o-ring to fully seal the line. In this case,
you can usually cut off a half inch section and stick the old air line back in.
If the end of the air line has a raised part from the factory, just cut past the
raised portion and install the air line until it stops. (you can't push it
in too far)
Below is a picture in
order of the parts as they come out of a dryer connection, the first being the
rubber o-ring and the last being the orange collar. (same style of fitting used
for solenoids)
Starting
from left to right, are the name of the parts that come out of a dryer connection
and their job.

#1)
O-Ring = Seals the air line to the dryer
#2)
Nylon Washer = Protects the o-ring from the jaws of the collet
#3)
Collet = Allows an air line to go in, but keeps it from popping out
#4)
Orange Collar = Snaps onto collet. DOES NOT seal or anything. It simply gives
you a bigger target to push.
Its hard to
see from the picture, but what actualy holds the line in, is the brass collet.
The brass collet is like a open tube on one end and the other end being split
into 4 small sharp jaws, that allow the air line to go in easy, but grab onto
the line if it tries to come out.
